It was miraculous - There was wind for a Polar Bear race! We headed out in to a forecast of 30-40kts and were very happily surprised when it blew a beautiful 12-17kts... almost enough to not notice how incredibly wet it was! Unfortunately we were late to the start but we managed to sail a great race and not make too many mistakes! While we weren't doing any brilliant sail changes or any quick tacks or gybes we were able to keep the boat moving quickly and managed to catch and pass a number of boats. I was really impressed with the newbies aboard the boat - it was absolute trial-by-fire and they all did brilliantly! Don't believe me? See for yourself! I sneakily put the gopro up! Here are some of the maneuvers.
DISCLAIMER - As you can clearly tell I'm no Bruno Delbonel and it certainly isn't really edited at all but I think this accurately portrays the day's sailing. I put this camera up mainly so we can debrief after sailing; it's a great way to illustrate what it is I'm yammering on about from the back of the boat.
